Released by the Royal Mint for the first time, these 1 Kilogram British Britannia silver bullion coins feature the same elegant design and features as the 1-ounce silver Britannia coin. The British Britannia Kilo coin features an effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on the front. The Queen is looking to the right on the coin. The words 'Elizabeth II' are inscribed on the front, and the coin's face value of £500 is also inscribed on the front. The reverse side of each coin features Lady Britannia.
Lady Britannia first featured on British coins as early as 40AD, during the time when Britain was part of the Roman Empire. Since then, she has appeared several times. Today, she only appears on the country's bullion coins as part of the Britannia Series. She stands on the shores of Britain, with a trident in her right hand, and a shield and olive branch in her left. The words 'Britannia', '2023', '1 Kilo', and '999 fine silver' are all inscribed around the outside of the coin.
The Britannia Series was first minted in gold in 1987. In 1997 the coin was released in silver, and in 2016 it was also released in platinum. 2023 is the only year that the Britannia silver coin has been released in a 1 Kilogram size.
